Spring 2025 Newsletter

Registration is LIVE for the 2025 Hospice Cup!

Set your sails for a great cause—registration is now officially open for the 2025 Hospice Cup Regatta, taking place Saturday, September 13, 2025 in Annapolis, Maryland.

Now in its 44th year, Hospice Cup has evolved into the largest charity regatta in the United States, attracting around 100 boats each year.  Founded in 1981, Hospice Cup raises critical funds and awareness for hospice and palliative care programs in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Local programs like Montgomery Hospice & Prince George’s Hospice, Talbot Hospice, Capital Caring Kids, and Luminis Health Gilchrist Lifecare Institute benefit from the event’s success.

This year’s regatta features three racing circles designed to appeal to competitive yacht racing fleets of all levels:

  • Windward-leeward course for one-design and PHRF racers
  • Distance course for seasoned big boat competitors
  • Cruising fleet course for club racers and casual sailors

Hospice Cup continues to draw enthusiastic participation from one-design fleets, PHRF competitors, and club racing teams who want to combine top-level racing with charitable impact.  With CBYRA-sanctioned scoring and eligibility for high point credit, Hospice Cup is a must-attend for Mid-Atlantic racers.  Prizes will be awarded to top finishers in each class, with special recognition for fundraising achievements.

Registration for this year’s event can be found by clicking here.

Congratulations to 2025 Hospice Cup Art Competition Winner Leah Bell

Classically trained local artist Leah Bell’s award-winning painting Racing Rhythms was chosen as the feature image for Hospice Cup XLIV at this year’s spring reception, hosted with the Maryland Federation of Art.  Bell’s artwork, inspired by her own personal connection to hospice care, will appear on official Hospice Cup merchandise and be auctioned live at the Hospice Cup Awards Party on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

Platinum Clean Regatta Status & Sustainability in 2025

2024 was a banner year for Hospice Cup’s zero waste effort.  Our ramped up investment in 2024 earned the race its first ever Platinum Clean Regatta certification from Sailors for the Sea, the governing body for sustainable boating recognition.

To read more about sustainability at last year’s regatta and our plans to build on that progress in 2025, check out Hospice Cup’s Sustainability Report.

Also, go ahead and mark your calendars for the second annual Mimosa Marina Cleanup, which will take place this year on Sunday September 14th at Horn Point Marina.
