Hospice Charities Win at at 45th Anniversary Hospice Cup Regatta

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Sailors from across the Chesapeake and beyond gathered on Saturday, September 19, for the 45th annual Hospice Cup regatta, bringing together competitive sailing, community and philanthropy in support of non-profit hospice care.

The regatta, hosted by the Storm Trysail Club, Severn Sailing Association, and West River Sailing Club, fielded sailors from half a dozen states competing in multiple fleets on windward/leeward, distance, and cruising courses.

Together, sailors, sponsors, donors, and supporters raised $271,000 for Hospice Cup’s mission of raising funds and awareness for hospice care in the region.

“The breeze may have been light this year, but the charitable participation was anything but,” said Hospice Cup Executive Director Meredith Glacken. “It’s really something to see, that after 45 years, the community keeps coming together to rally around a cause that touches all of us. We’re lucky and grateful to the sailors, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who continue to make this tradition possible.”

For more than four decades, Hospice Cup has brought the sailing community together to support hospice organizations serving patients and families throughout the region. The event supports care for people with advanced and terminal illness, including programs serving patients who are uninsured or under-insured.

Following racing, sailors and supporters gathered at Horn Point Harbor Marina for the awards celebration, marking the conclusion of another year of racing in support of hospice care.
